Canadians Get Another Go at Record-Equalling Jackpot

7 Nov 2012

Canada’s LOTTO MAX jackpot is currently equal to the country’s largest-ever combined fund for the games.

At $50 million, with 50 MAXMILLIONS prizes also to be won the LOTTO MAX jackpot, did not find a winner on Friday November 2nd, meaning it rolls over for another week, and another chance at glory for players.

A further 50 MAXMILLIONS prizes are also up for grabs – despite 24 of these being won on Friday.

Two ticketholders, one in Aldergrove and one in Fort St. John, scooped $1 million each, while another $1 million was shared between ticketholders in Kamloops and the Kootenays.

John George, a 65-year-old heavy equipment operator, is among the big-money winners trying to work out what to do with a six-figure sum.

He told the British Columbia Lottery Corporation that he only plays when there’s a big jackpot on offer – or, in his words, “when the pot gets high, I jump in”.

While feeling unwell over the weekend, John headed to his local pharmacy, and decided to check his lottery tickets at an automated machine while he was there.

His first ticket failed to win, but his second triggered an on-screen message telling him of his win – half a million Canadian dollars.

“My wife didn’t believe me… I had to show her both the slips,” he said afterwards.
