Top 10 Casino World Records

From Elvis impersonators to William Shatner's kidney stone, we've mined the Guinness World Records database to bring you the ten most noteworthy casino related records.

30 Nov 2015

Casinos are famous for their big-money payouts, glitz and glamour, but which have actually made it into the record books?

Here’s 10 of our own favourite casino world records, in no particular order…

1. Biggest Burger

The world’s biggest hamburger was served up on September 2nd 2012 at Black Bear Casino Resort in Carlton, Minnesota.

Weighing in at over 2,000lb, it also came with nearly 25kg of tomatoes, 22kg of lettuce, 27kg of onion, 18kg of cheese, nearly 9kg of pickles and 7.5kg of delicious bacon.

2. Most Chips

No, not the “do you want fries with that 2,000lb burger?” kind of chips – Bruce and Sue Wunder hold the record for the most casino chips from different casinos, with 449 chips and 105 slot tokens, all from different venues, all since the year 2000.

3. Most Elvises

…or should that be Elvi? An impressive 895 impersonators packed into Harrah’s Cherokee Casino Resort on July 12th 2014, and nobody stepped on anybody’s blue suede shoes (probably).

4. Oldest Croupier

As of February 20th 2015, Joanna Dodd became the world record-holding oldest croupier at 79 years and 36 days, and still employed in the role by Flamingo Casino – where else but Las Vegas?

5. Biggest Playing Cards

This one doesn’t sound too impressive – a deck of cards measuring 4′ 3″ by 3′ 1″ each – but when you imagine playing a hand of Blackjack on that scale, as happened at Viejas Casino in Alpine, California, on September 12th 2013, the practicalities of it definitely add something to this record.

6. Most Casinos in a Day

What a difference a day makes… 69 hands of Blackjack. There are a few interesting things about Jack and Jeremy Freeman’s record of August 27th-28th 2007.

Of course it happened in Vegas, but actually the Freemans (Freemen?) simply ran out of casinos, playing a hand of Blackjack in each of the 69 casinos they could find in just 19 hours, not the allotted 24.

They kept a $5 chip from each casino, a total of $345, but taking this into account, they actually ended up $30 up after their 69th hand – proof that the house doesn’t always win after all.

7. Tiredest Croupier

OK technically this one is the ‘longest marathon’ croupier, but after 1,650 spins of the Roulette wheel in 48 hours on February 18th-20th 2005, Intan Pragi of the Olympic Casino in Tallinn, Estonia, was probably ready for a nap.

8. Most Vanished People

Vegas is famed for its stage shows, and Criss Angel is the big name in magic in recent years. On May 26th 2010, at the Luxor, he handcuffed 100 people together, raised a curtain around them – and when the curtain fell, they were all gone.

9. Biggest Boat

The world’s biggest waterborne casino is a riverboat, The Legend, owned by Caesars Indiana and with capacity for 5,324 passengers and a 93,000ft gaming floor in total.

10. Fastest Pumpkin Carver

We end on a very seasonal record – on October 29th 2008, at Harrah’s Casino Resort in Atlantic City, Stephen Clarke set the record for the fastest time to carve a tonne of pumpkins into jack-o-lanterns, a feat he achieved in 3 hours, 33 minutes and 49 seconds.

Special Mention: William Shatner’s kidney stone

One of the all-time most legendary records is the $25,000 paid by Golden Palace to William Shatner for a kidney stone he passed the previous year.

It’s just one of the online casino’s crazy purchases, which include a toasted sandwich with an image of the Virgin Mary on it, and a potato shaped like Pete Townshend of The Who.
