A Brief History
InterCasino is one of the most established and long-standing online casinos in the UK. It first launched back in 1996, and has since built a reputation for being open, honest and transparent with its players. It has become a firm favourite among high-rollers and VIPs, who are drawn to its exclusive, invite-only, InterVIP Club. The brand is all about prestige and offering players a sophisticated casino experience.
There are subtle hints that InterCasino is a luxury product. From a design perspective, it’s all whites, golds and blacks. The brand logo is a gold crown, a clear nod to its royal status in the market. Its tone of voice carries an authoritative air; it explains to players that it has achieved its top-tier status by “defining everything we do around core values like integrity, excellence, passion […].”
Its principles have remained the same since day one, despite the brand having been owned by a string of operators. When it was established in 1996, it became part of the InterCasino Group, which in turn was owned by CryptoLogic Operations, a subsidiary of the Goldstar Acquisitionco. In 2012, CryptoLogic was acquired by Amaya for $35.8 million, giving it control of the InterCasino brand.
Two years later, however, Amaya sold CryptoLogic’s B2C division, WagerLogic, to Goldstar Acquisitionco for $70 million. The sale included all of CryptoLogic’s consumer-facing online casino and poker sites – InterCasino, InterPoker and InterBingo. WagerLogic then rebranded to the Intertain Group, which immediately listed on Toronto’s TXS Venture Exchange.
The M&A didn’t stop there, however. In 2015, Intertain acquired the Jackpotjoy brand from Gamesys for £425 million, with Intertain rebranding once again to the Jackpotjoy Group, which is headquartered in London. InterCasino is now operated by its Dumarca Gaming Limited subsidiary (the operator behind Vera&John), which holds a licence with the Great Britain Gambling Commission.
InterCasino and Vera&John both run on the same Plain Gaming Platform, which offers more than 800 games – 600+ of which are available on mobile – from 30+ providers including Microgaming, NetEnt, NYX Gaming, Scientific Games, and IGT. The two sites are very different though, and InterCasino has positioned itself as the go-to casino for discerning gamblers seeking a more high-end experience.
The InterCasino name has been around for more than two decades; proof positive that the product and service the operator (regardless of owner) has spent years perfecting has struck a chord with players who remain loyal and keep coming back for more. The casino won’t be to everyone’s taste, but InterCasino knows what its customers want and delivers it to them.
Time to Play a Game
A big part of InterCasino’s longevity has been its ability to innovate and adapt. In this day and age, players want choice when it comes to the games available to them. While other established operators such as Paddy Power and bet365 have limited game lobbies dominated by Playtech, InterCasino offers more than 800 slots, table and live casino titles to its players.
In fact, InterCasino has hooked up with around 30 software suppliers, including Microgaming, NetEnt, NYX Gaming, Yggdrasil Gaming, Quickspin, Red Tiger Gaming, Play’n GO, Thunderkick and more. This, in turn, allows the operator to offer a huge number of titles with a vast array of themes, volatility, reel structures, bonus features and pay-outs, ensuring there is something for everyone.
As you would expect, all the big hitters are present: Gonzo’s Quest, Starburst, Rainbow Riches, Raging Rhino, Vikings Go Wild, Book of Dead, Immortal Romance, and Foxin’ Wins. In addition, there is a constant stream of new titles being added such as Reactoonz, Totem Lightning, and Mayana. Alongside original titles, InterCasino also offers a decent range of branded games.
Titles in this category include: Bruce Lee, Moby Dick, Planet of the Apes, Game of Thrones, and The Invisible Man. Fans of super heroes will also be pleased to learn the operator stocks several hero slots including: Batman, Judge Dredd, and Green Lantern. It’s a really nice mix of games, with enough variety to ensure all player preferences are catered for.
For those who like the thrill and excitement of playing slots with life-changing prize pools, InterCasino offers 19 jackpot games. This includes Mega Fortune, Mega Moolah, Mega Moolah ISIS, Hall of Gods, and Cleopatra. Other networked jackpots with smaller prizes include Dragon Ship, Ninja Fruits, Jewel Box, and Holmes and the Stolen Stones.
When it comes to table games, there are 60+ titles available across blackjack, roulette, baccarat, poker and video poker. Variants include Monopoly, French and America roulette, and Double Exposure and Single Deck blackjack. For fans of video poker, games offered include Jacks or Better, Joker Poker, and Double Double Bonus. It’s a decent collection for those who like to mix up their slots play.
InterCasino has a stellar live dealer offering. It is split into two lobbies, Paris and Cosmopolitan. The former is powered by Evolution Gaming and the latter by NetEnt. In short, this gives players access to both supplier’s live dealer lobbies, with games offered across blackjack, roulette, baccarat, poker and live money wheel via Evolution’s new Dream Catcher title. In addition, there are plenty of VIP tables.
The game lobby is fairly easy to navigate, but does require a lot of scrolling. The following tabs run across the top of the homepage – All Games, New, Popular, Slots, Blackjack, Roulette, Table Games, Live Casino, Jackpot – which categorises titles at a basic level. The issue, however, is that when you click into the slots lobby, there are more than 700 games to choose from.
These games are not categorised in any way – they are not even ordered alphabetically – so players must scroll down until they find what they are looking for. This can result in some seriously square eyes. There is a search tool, but players must know the name of the game they are trying to find. It’s frustrating; InterCasino has an exciting and varied game portfolio but it’s difficult to navigate.
On the Move
InterCasino has developed a smart and sophisticated mobile gaming proposition for its players, with the site accessible via in-browser and native application (iOS and Android). It is powered by the same Plain Gaming Platform used by Vera&John, with the same number of games and design/layout. All told, there are 630+ slots, table and live dealer games up for grabs.
Whether accessing InterCasino via in-browser or native, the style and voice of the brand is not lost on the smaller screen real estate. In fact, its black, white and gold colour scheme works really well. The problem, however, is with how the lobby is organised and the way in which players navigate their way through the hundreds of titles offered to them – this is the same issue with Vera&John mobile.
When landing on the homepage, players find several game categories – Popular, New, Jackpots – which they swipe through to find games. At the bottom of the page there are two more tabs to click on – Live Casino and All Games. At first glance, it appears the operator only has a small mobile game portfolio, when in reality, it offers one of the largest available to players in the UK.
If players click on the All Games tab, they are then taken to another lobby where they can scroll through the entire library. Alternatively, they can choose to group games under a myriad of categories – Popular, New, Hot Wins, Slots, Classic Slots, Table Games, Scratch Games. This makes it much easier to find the games they are looking for, or similar titles based on their preferences.
It is strange in a way, because InterCasino desktop does not offer such a comprehensive search tool, and would certainly benefit from it.
When it comes to game play, InterCasino mobile delivers a smooth and seamless experience –both in-browser and native. Games load quickly and offer bold graphics and clear sound. They can be played in both portrait and landscape mode depending on how you prefer to hold your device. All of the same features found on desktop are available on mobile, too.
This includes accessing the bonuses available to players – and how far through the wagering requirements they are – and the different promotions available. In addition, the same deposit and withdrawal methods are offered, and players can also view their cashier and game histories. It is also possible to set limits from mobile devices, and live chat customer support is available.
All told, it is a very solid offering, but there is a little disconnect between desktop and mobile. This is mainly due to the different search options on mobile – which is an improvement – but also partly because the native application logo still features the old InterCasino branding, which also appears when the app is first loading. Small things which, if remedied, would see InterCasino rank in the top tier on mobile.
InterCasino is renowned for its exclusive, invite-only VIP scheme – InterVIP. The operator says it is one of the most sought-after clubs in the online casino world, as its members receive incredible incentives and rewards. Membership is monitored on a monthly basis to ensure those lucky enough to be granted entry continue to meet the criteria required to enjoy the “new dimension of exclusivity” it offers.
So, what is all the fuss about? Well, members receive their own personal account manager. This is standard when it comes to VIP schemes, as are the personalised bonuses and promotions also offered. Where InterVIP stands out from the crowd is the lavish events it hosts. Previous soirees have included tickets to the Monaco Formula 1 Grand Prix and a private dinner at Gordon Ramsay’s Savoy Grill in London.
Players can request membership to InterVIP, but the operator is very selective with whom it grants access. For those who don’t meet the criteria, InterCasino doesn’t offer a rewards scheme as such. Instead, it offers tailored bonuses and promotions which players can access in the Promo Lounge which they enter via a tab at the top of the homepage – more on what is offered below.
Welcome to the Lounge
What InterCasino lacks in the way of a rewards scheme, it makes up for (or at least tries to) with promotions. Players can access all available promotions by clicking the tab at the top of the homepage, which takes them through to a separate lobby. Here, they will find the current promotions being offered, as well as a link to the Promo Lounge where more tailored deals await.
When we clicked through to the Promo Lounge, we were offered the Deal of the Day. At the time of review, this was Race to the Table – players earn one point for every £4 wagered on table games. Points are logged on a leader board with prizes awarded to the top three – £75, £50 and £25 respectively. All prizes are considered bonus money, and come with a 10x wagering requirement.
In addition, there is a Privilege Deal for InterCasino’s elite players. The promotion is the same as the standard offering, except prizes increase to £200, £100 and £50 respectively. For both deals, bonus prizes are credited within 72 hours, and wagering requirements must be played through within three days of the money landing in the player’s account.
Other daily promotions include Happy Hour, Free Spins, Surprise Surprise, Free Roll, Bounce Back, and On the Move. It is worth noting, however, that most promotions are only made available to players who have deposited into their accounts a minimum of three times. In addition to Deal of the Day, the operator was, at the time, also running a special offer to celebrate its 21st birthday.
The Real Deal
InterCasino says its players are the real deal, and likes to greet new ones with a big smile and a generous bonus offer to boot. On sign-up, players receive 10 free spins on Book of Dead, with any winnings considered bonus money and subject to a 40x wagering requirement. On their first deposit, players receive an additional 100 free spins (in batches of 20 and on five specific games) and 100% up to £300.
Deposits two and three also receive a 100% boost up to £300, taking the total welcome package to £900 in bonus cash and 110 free spins. The free spins wagering requirements we have already mentioned (40x on all winnings), and when it comes to the cash, players must wager through the bonus money and their deposit 25x within seven days.
It is a generous offer, for sure, but the wagering requirements may deter some from taking it. For those looking to extend their gameplay, bonus money and free spins are a great tool, but for those who prefer to keep their winnings it is often best to just play with the amount you are happy to deposit (and lose). It really depends on the experience you are seeking.
InterCasino gives its players plenty of options when it comes to depositing and withdrawing. The main gateways are available, including Visa, MasterCard, Neteller, Skrill, ecoPayz and paysafecard. When it comes to withdrawals, paysafecard is not an option, but bank transfer is. There are minimum and maximum deposits and withdrawals, which are set as follows:
It is worth noting that ecoPayz withdrawals below £50 incur a £5 fee. Jackpot.co.uk is against operators charging transaction fees of any kind, and strongly suggests InterCasino remove this charge with immediate effect. That said, some operators levy charges on all deposits and withdrawals, so at least InterCasino limits it to just ecoPayz transactions.
As required by the GB Gambling Commission, InterCasino keeps player funds separate from its own operational accounts. This is done to the regulator’s “medium” requirements, which is a step above most other operators who are only compliant at the “basic” level. This means InterCasino player funds would be returned to them in the event the firm enters insolvency.
Safe and Secure
To protect player data and financial transactions from hacking and fraud, InterCasino deploys a 256-bit Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) encryption. This is similar to that used by banks and major financial institutions. The operator does not store player card details, which are sent directly to the payment processor. It only keeps hold of a “token”, which is used to reference their card for future transactions.
When it comes to fairness, InterCasino ensures its random number generators are working correctly by having them regularly tested by independent third parties. This includes Gaming Laboratories International and NMi. This, it says, means it can “guarantee” there is no manipulation of game outcomes either by the company or customers – it is also part of its licensing requirements.
Players who wish to make a complaint against InterCasino must first do so via customer support. They will launch an investigation and reach a resolution. If the player is still unhappy, they can contact the operator’s Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) body, eCOGRA. The ADR will conduct its own inquiry, and reach a proposed resolution. This is usually final, but players can take the matter to court.
The operator is a champion of responsible gambling, and has a dedicated page where players can learn more about the tools available to them when it comes to staying in control of their wagering. Such tools include setting loss and deposit limits, as well as session times and reality checks. This, it says, has been developed in conjunction with the Global Gambling Guidance Group (G4).
InterCasino also works with several gambling charities, and guides players who think they may require help towards them. Such bodies include GamCare, the Gordon Moody Association, and Gamblers Anonymous. All told, it has fairly robust player protection measures in place (certified by G4), with information about responsible gambling easy to access and understand.
A Helping Hand
InterCasino’s customer support agents can be accessed via email, live chat and telephone. They are not available 24 hours a day, but are active from 8am – 10pm seven days a week. Live chat is the best way of resolving minor issues and/or complaints, and the agents we spoke to were polite, knowledgeable and able to resolve our enquiry satisfactorily.
The addition of telephone support is a nice touch, particularly for players with more serious issues to do with game outcomes, jackpot wins, account problems, etc. – as the human touch goes a long way in these scenarios. The operator has built a legion of loyal players over the years, and its customer support offering has been key to ensuring they remain happy.
The gold crown that sits atop the InterCasino logo is a clear symbol of its status among UK-facing online casinos. As a brand, it has forged an incredible legacy over the past 20+ years, and really understands what it takes to deliver a superior online casino product to players. It has positioned itself as the go-to site for discerning gamblers and high rollers, and has become the natural home for such players.
It boasts a vast portfolio of more than 830 slots, table and live dealer games, providing variety and choice to its players. Its VIP programme is considered among the best, although the lack of a rewards scheme for more casual players is a slight mark against it. That said, InterCasino offers plenty of exciting promotions – some via tournament play – but most winnings do incur wagering requirements.
If you are looking for an established and trusted online casino, then InterCasino certainly fits the bill. It has built its reputation around core values – integrity, excellence, innovation, passion and clear communication – which have not only allowed it to be successful over the past two decades, but to also position it as a market leader for the next 20 and thereafter.
In short, those who walk through its black and gold doors will not be disappointed.
