An Impressive Start and Track Record
32Red was created in 2002 and quickly established itself with a reputation for paying out on member disputes, providing good player support, and generally treating its users fairly.
A slew of Best Casino titles followed over the years, joined in 2010 by a Casino of the Decade award. In June 2017, the brand was bought by Kindred Group – which started in 1997 as Unibet – and soon after a sponsorship deal was announced with Rangers FC, extending a partnership that began in 2014 for at least a further two football seasons.
A Perfect Pair of Providers
32Red’s software combines RNG (random number generator) games from Microgaming with a live dealer casino operated by Evolution Gaming. The former puts some of the internet’s biggest titles and jackpots within easy reach, the latter offers an immersive and varied live casino experience, and the whole recipe is sweetened just a little by the addition of 32Red exclusives like Ant & Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway.
The eCOGRA-certified payout rates to the player are high compared to other casino sites, especially for the table games, with an overall average for 32Red of more than 97.5%.
Like other “instant” casinos, there’s no big software download up front, but loading an individual game will take a minute or two depending on your connection speed. This can make the site feel a little glitchy right at the start of a new game, but it soon smooths out once the graphics and audio have downloaded.
Mobile for all Main Platforms
The 32Red mobile app has some of the best cross-platform support in the industry, with compatible versions available for Android, iOS and Windows.
User reviews rate the graphics especially highly, but it scores 4+ stars almost across the board – and with good reason. The general experience brings everything to the table that you get on the desktop site, and as 32Red themselves put it, “we’ve put it through a hot wash”.
The result is a shrunk-down casino that downloads in just 2.74MB of data, but still allows you to play for real money on the big-name and exclusive titles you know and love.
Well-Integrated Instant Play
The instant desktop experience is everything you would expect from Microgaming and Evolution Gaming, who account for the RNG and live dealer parts of the site respectively. But it’s the way the software is integrated into the rest of the site that stands out, with a homepage menu that links to every game individually, all sorted into different sections and game types.
There are demo play and play-for-fun options if you don’t want to risk any money while you’re learning a new slot or table game, and once you load any one game, there’s a big, bright title bar to quit back to the main menu or access promotions and cashier services, as well as a pop-out menu on the left to navigate to related titles.
It’s clean and simple but also pretty seamless, and makes it really easy to get around the site.
Vibrant Video Slots
Slots make up the lion’s share of the games on 32Red, with over 300 to choose from and tournament play on 10+ titles at any given time.
There are brand names – Game of Thrones, Jurassic World, and Tomb Raider – as well as exclusives like Ant & Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway, with features based on the games and sketches you’ll know from the show.
There are also plenty of original ideas, like the brilliantly named Bar Bar Black Sheep (where the prize multiplier is triggered by getting a Bar, a Bar, and a Black Sheep along the win line…!), all with the option of demo or ‘play for free’ mode. Check the Promotions page for extra loyalty points on a selection of slots each month or look under Newest for the most recent additions.
Just About the Jackpots
If all you’re interested in is the really big-money jackpots, the Jackpot Games section has 15 to choose from, including Mega Moolah and Cash Splash.
It’s a shame that the homepage link tiles for jackpot games don’t give a preview of exactly how much the progressive jackpot is worth at the time, as this means you have to click through to each game to see how much is waiting to pay out. But as jackpots are network-wide across all casinos that carry a particular title, they can be huge. For example, Mega Moolah guarantees at least £1 million and has frequently eclipsed the record for the biggest jackpot paid out to a mobile-casino player, with several wins around the €8 million (£7.4 million) mark.
As always with progressive jackpots, a portion of the money you stake pays into the pot to fund the big prizes, but as this happens at all of the casino sites that feature the relevant game, there are a huge number of small contributions trickling in and adding up to a potential multimillion-pound payout.
Tip Top Table Games with Live Dealers
Some casinos neglect their RNG table games in favour of pushing the live dealer rooms, but 32Red gives equal attention to both, with homepage menus for roulette, blackjack and poker, as well as for the Live Casino.
The choice of Patsy Kensit to provide the recorded voiceovers for RNG table games might seem unusual, but it adds a bit of celeb glamour to them, while the Live Casino includes the usual offerings from Evolution Gaming, including Dream Catcher, a Wheel-of-Fortune-style money wheel with elements of Roulette but much simpler rules and payouts.
There’s no play-for-free option in the live rooms, but as long as you have an account, you should be able to log in and spectate for a while before you’re prompted to deposit some funds.
Reeling in the Tournaments
It’s easy to spot tournaments on 32Red – on the homepage menus, they have their own section, and are also highlighted by the small trophy icon in the corner of their menu link/tile. Don’t forget to use the arrows or View All to see what’s running right now, as only the first 11 are shown by default.
Tournaments at 32Red tend to focus on the online slots and several typical formats, including freerolls, accumulators and “survivor” events; these can span several days, so before you buy into an endurance event, make sure you’ve got the time to compete! Also look out for promotions that stop short of being competitive tournaments, but still reward you over a longer period of play – for example, the High Five bonus that pays out £5 credit if you hit five blackjacks in one day in the live dealer rooms, and £20 if you hit ten.
It’s not just members who rave about 32Red – the site has won a host of awards and honourable mentions, mostly from Casinomeister, one of the main online casino user forums. They include a six-year uninterrupted run as Best Online Casino in 2003-08 and a (perhaps unsurprising) Best Casino of the Decade title in 2010. An eGaming Review Casino Operator of the Year Award followed in 2011.
Get Out What You Put In
The T&Cs of deposits and withdrawals are a bit vague – the Help Centre could be clearer on this, but there are plenty of accepted methods. You’ll need to register a deposit method in order to get your free welcome credit, but you don’t have to make an actual payment. You’ll also need to prove your age/identity by uploading official ID documents like a driving licence or passport.
When it comes to getting your funds, there’s a 24-hour delay as standard, which increases to 48 hours for withdrawal requests made after 3 p.m., in line with common banking practice.
You can designate a preferred withdrawal method, but 32Red may overrule you and pay back to the method you used to deposit. Be sure to double-check if your funds don’t appear within a few days.
Spinning in Safety
Whether you’re spinning the slots or the roulette wheel, or taking your seat at a blackjack or poker table, you want to know that every chip you stake is safe and secure.
32Red has certified SSL encryption across the entire site, with 128-bit digital encryption on a par with that used by financial institutions. eCOGRA certification verifies that the random number generator works correctly, as well as checking the average return to player or RTP percentage.
32Red even had mystery shoppers check on their customer support team, scoring 8.8 out of 10 – the highest of the 16 big-name casinos ranked in the survey – and earning praise from etruvian consulting, who carried out the research, for “putting the customer first”.
Every major online casino makes a show of its fairness and security, but it’s interesting to see such a joined-up approach to it at 32Red, where everything from deposits, to gameplay, to customer service, has been carefully built, verified and audited to make sure it continues to give the site’s members the best possible service.
Strong Support to See You Through
By the vast majority of popular opinion, 32Red’s support is excellent – often siding with the player in disputes and generally giving quite generous gestures when something has gone wrong. This is not exclusively for the high-rollers; direct support is open to all members and seems to be more than fair in most cases.
It’s a shame there isn’t a clearer Contact Us page, even in the Help Centre, but if you go to any help page and scroll to the bottom, there are picture links to the live chat, email and telephone support. It’s easy to miss these if you’re used to ignoring banner advertisements online, but once you spot them, you’re spoilt for choice.
Also, 32Red specifically welcomes communication via the real-world postal service to their Gibraltar office, as well as operating a Skype account if you prefer to contact them that way.
Customer support is one of the truly stand-out aspects of 32Red, and they are frequently praised for it by players on the major casino forums. So, if fair treatment is high on your wish list when choosing an online casino, this is the one for you.
Lots of Limits (When You Need Them)
32Red’s self-exclusion options are impressive to say the least, and show a genuine commitment to upholding their Responsible Gambling obligations.
For a start, the Help Centre lists contact details for GamCare, the Gordon Moody Association, Gamblers Anonymous, Gam-Anon and Samaritans – not to mention Citizens Advice and the National Debt Helpline for players who find themselves in financial difficulties.
But it’s the ability to limit your own access to the site that takes things a step further. Options include setting an automatic session time-out, or a reminder alert when you have been logged in for a certain amount of time. You can set a limit on the amount you can deposit per day, week or month. You can suspend your account for a short period using the ‘Take A Break’ option, or self-exclude yourself completely for anywhere between six and 60 months.
These options are easy to find in the Help Centre and fairly easy to switch on in your Account options – the only criticism is that they don’t come up in the Help Centre search results for the words ‘addicted’ and ‘compulsive’, but they are there for ‘problem’ and ‘advice’, and easily found directly via the menu.
Pick of the Promotions
Promotions at 32Red are easily accessed – look for the gift box icon in the top right and the number will tell you how many promotions are currently available to you. When you first log in this will probably be around five, including a free welcome bonus, a deposit match, and information about 2-3 other bonuses from around the site, although obviously these may change over time or depending on whether you fund your account right away.
Often, the promos are small giveaways on specific games – a boost to the loyalty points you earn, or a cashback award if you win on a certain result – and these help add variety alongside the usual deposit matches.
To claim your first free-credit welcome bonus, you’ll need to register a deposit method, even if you don’t pay anything in, and while this is a bit annoying, you don’t actually need any credit to try most of the games on the site. Just be aware that if you play for fun/free the software will periodically prompt you to play for cash instead, which will mean making a deposit or registering a debit/credit card to claim your welcome bonus.
VIP Tiers for Years
If there’s a criticism to be made of 32Red’s Ruby Rewards loyalty programme, it’s that it’s a little too full featured, with five different VIP tiers to navigate.
You earn a different number of rubies on different games around the casino, depending on how much you wager, but you don’t need to keep track of the total as you will automatically move up through the VIP tiers if you qualify.
The lowest tier, Bronze, starts at just 50 rubies; respectively, Silver, Gold and Platinum require 1,000, 5,000 and 10,000 to enter, and to stay at your current rank you must earn half as many rubies again in each following month – so just 25 to keep Bronze status, but up to 5,000 to stay at the Platinum level.
For ‘rock star’ members, there’s an invitation-only Club Rouge tier, where eligibility is reviewed manually by the club’s managers. At each level, you earn a boost on the number of rubies you get for wagering around the site and/or a one-off bonus on your birthday, along with personalised promotions at Gold level and above.
For every 1,000 rubies you collect, you can exchange them for 10 credits to spend in the casino, but for anything much more significant you’ll need to reach Gold level or better.
32Red is a slick operation. The site looks welcoming, the menus are easy to navigate, and you never feel like you’re trapped in a specific game with no links to get back to the homepage.
It’s a site with a strong personality, which makes even the help pages more fun to read, although in a few cases it can feel like the tone should be a bit more serious when you’re seeking support for a dispute or other issue. With 32Red’s reputation for great customer service though, it still feels like support isn’t far away.
It’s good to see plenty of software options – from instant-loading online games to the downloadable Premium Casino application, to mobile apps for Windows as well as the usual iOS and Android. Nothing feels outdated, even though 32Red has been around since 2002, and other than a bit of a wait for the instant games to buffer/download, everything runs pretty smoothly.
Certain restrictions can feel like they’re holding you back at times; for example, you can’t view tournaments unless you have enough credit to buy in, and you can’t view the T&Cs of promotions unless you qualify for them. You also can’t get your welcome bonus without registering a deposit method. But you can play most of the games on the site for free using unlimited virtual credit, so there’s good balance there, too.
Overall, it feels like 32Red are very much on the player’s side, providing fair, safe and secure games in a bold, bright and welcoming setting.
