Online casino launched by Genting with Playtech

Genting International PLC, the Malaysian gaming group, has made its first steps into the world of online gaming with the launch of its Playtech-powered casino CircusCasino.com.

The casino will be operated by Genting Stanley Alderney LTD and the company are seeing it as an opportunity to test the waters before moving into the potentially lucrative Asian market.

“This is obviously a good opportunity in its own right, but it allows you to play around and trial a lot of things to prepare you if Asia opens up,” one source told Reuters.

However, at least from launch, only players from the UK, Isle of Man and the Channel Islands will be able to play for real money. Other players from around the world will only be able to play fun games.

Genting will be keen to avoid the mistakes that Stanley Leisure, the UK casino chain that the Malaysian company bought in 2006, made when they attempted to move into the online realm. Signing with an established and leading software provider such as Playtech will minimise the possibility of history repeating itself.
