Gambling debt is paid and no more betting for Barkley

Former NBA star Charles Barkley says he has paid his $400,000 gambling debt to the Wynn Las Vegas casino and vowed to stop gambling.

However, according to Dan Kulin, a spokesman for the district attorney’s office, no monies have been received.

“We have no contact and received no money from Mr. Barkley,” Mr Kulin told the New York Times.

“At this point, Mr. Barkley could pay us or the hotel.”

So does the hotel know if Barkley has paid or not?

“I don’t know for certain if Barkley has paid,” said a spokeswoman for Wynn Resorts.

Amongst all this clarity, Barkley has had a moment of lucidity himself and said he will not gamble again…at least for the next two years.

"I like to go into Vegas, it's a fun place, but you know what, I've got to stop gambling. That's the bottom line," Barkley, a TNT analyst, said during the pre-game build-up of Game 7 between San Antonio and New Orleans.

"I am not going to gamble anymore. For right now, the next year or two, I'm not going to gamble."

Barkley added that he would try to stop gambling without seeking help and said: "Just because I can afford to lose money doesn't mean I should do it."

For the next two years anyway.
