It seems it’s not just online gambling operator Bet365 who’s been getting into trouble with the Advertising Standards Authority this month.
Just last week, Malta-based Bayton Limited, who trade as Spin Palace, were deemed to have placed a misleading offer on their website which one player took umbrage with.
The consumer contacted the ASA regarding a page on Spin Palace’s website which stated “£1,000 free – 1st deposit – 100% Match Bonus.” The reader’s complaint was that the advert was misleading as it did not make sufficiently clear that any money deposited by the player could not be withdrawn until all the wagering requirements had been met.
Spin Palace responded to the ASA’s investigation by saying that the advert included a link telling the customer to “click here for terms,” which would take them to a separate page showing the full terms and conditions, including the fact that players would be unable to withdraw any money from their accounts until the wagering requirements had been met.
The Advertising Standards Authority however, ruled that the ad was indeed misleading. The ASA found that the wagering conditions were crucial to customers’ understanding of the offer and of the commitment they would need to make in order to take advantage of it, and concluded that the advert must not appear again in its current form.
