Plymouth Casino Staff Help out Marie Curie Cancer Care

They say that charity begins at home, but in several casinos scattered around the UK, it has also started at work.

In Plymouth staff at the Grosvenor G Casino at Derry’s Cross, joined in a fund raising drive with Marie Curie Cancer Care. The Plymouth venue has raised over £6500, with the help of staff who participated in a 1000 mile charity bike ride.

Staff from the Mecca Bingo and Grosvenor Casino in Sheffield, were also busy helping the cause and hosted events such as a steak eating challenge, talent competition, a car rally and fashion shows to add to the kitty. Huddersfield employees dressed up in costume and even did a parachute jump. Other events held throughout the country included chest waxing, abseiling, head shaving and games of extreme poker in unusual places. More than 90 Mecca Bingo staff participated in the Great North Run, being the largest corporate team to run for Marie Curie.

This is not the first time the Rank Group, which owns Grosvenor Casinos and Mecca Bingo, have supported this worthy cause. In 2010 they raised £288,000, which enabled the charity to pay for 14,400 hours of care and in 2011 they raised enough to help care for 31,000 terminally ill patients. They have now raised an impressive £1 million for the charity which will help them continue their valuable work.
