December 12th, 2012 – or 12-12-12 had casino punters feeling lucky this week as many hoped gambled on good fortune.
While the number 13 has long been associated with bad luck by some – and good luck by others, such as the pop-country singer Taylor Swift it was 12 that took pride of place this week.
It’s a date that looks the same whether you use American or British conventions, and which few people will live to see come around again.
With all of that in mind, there’s still no particular reason why it should be any luckier than any other day – but that didn’t stop American casinos from planning promotions to tie into the date.
The Associated Press reports that FireKeepers Casino near Battle Creek, south-west Michigan, planned the ribbon-cutting ceremony on its new 242-room hotel for 12:12pm on December 12th, 2012.
Meanwhile, New England gaming venue Foxwoods Resort Casino offered money back to its slots players for the day.
Anyone who played through $12 on December 12th got a further $12 for free – a subtle thank you from the resort to its loyal customers.
With numerologists claiming that the date also represents a coming together of masculine and feminine energies, however, it might not only be gamblers feeling lucky as a result – the occasion could also prove particularly auspicious for newlyweds.
