Betfair’s Harebrained Advertising
Online gambling companies and casino operators are always looking for new ways of standing out from the crowd. Whether it be online gambling products or mobile products there’s always someone trying to do something special.
But last weekend Betfair joined up with Bromley FC to go that extra step. For Bromley’s FA Cup 1st round tie against Leyton Orient, players had QR codes shaved into the back of their heads.
Any spectators lucky enough to get close to the players and scan the code would have been taken directly to the Betfair mobile site. The codes had to be precisely shaved into the players hair and were done so by Wayne Rooney and Rio Ferdinand’s hairdresser Daniel Johnson.
Johnson spent more than an hour on each cut and had to make sure that they were perfect so that phones would be able to scan the codes.
This isn’t the first time Betfair have combined sport and QR codes as they paid to put similar codes on the bottoms of Britain’s female beach volleyball champions earlier this year.
We’re unsure about how effective this advertising has been but it’s certainly got people talking about the betting exchange and their long list of online and mobile products. These products include sports betting, bingo, poker and of course the Betfair online casino.
