Betfair Among Those Expected to Struggle in Australia

The Australian stance on online gambling is being further complicated by sports stadiums refusing to renew their advertising contracts with Betfair.

The Hammersmith based company have previously offered live odds in various stadiums allowing those watching to bet on the action unfolding in front of them. However they will no longer be able to do so at the Melbourne Cricket Ground and many other stadiums in the country may make similar decisions.

The reason behind the refusal to renew their contract is that many of the teams that play at the multi-sport stadium felt the advertising was irresponsible. As well as this, there were fears that young people were being exposed too much to gambling. However, at this point in time, some forms of online gambling are legal in Australia, while the country’s igaming market is one of the biggest in the world.

A review of the current interactive gambling laws has been called for this week by politicians. Despite the reviews and anti-gambling stance of some organisations, online casinos remain free from criticism, with sports betting receiving the most attention.
