Ladbrokes Pulls out of Poland Following New Legislation
Online casino players in Poland will be unable to access many of their favourite casinos as of next month as new legislation comes in to place.
The new Polish Gambling act comes into effect at the beginning of July and will allow for sports betting under a Polish license only. Therefore, those operating under any license provided by a European Union country will not be able to operate in Poland unless they obtain a specific license for the country.
The act, designed to increase the number of Polish gambling licensees, appears to be having a negative affect as operators decide to leave the market completely. Ladbrokes is just one example of an operator who will not be applying for a Polish license. The UK bookmaker announced that they will no longer accept bets made from Polish IP addresses and will ask all players with Polish accounts to withdraw all of their funds from Ladbrokes accounts.
The act has also completely banned online poker in the country and will leave gamblers in the Central European country with far fewer online gambling options.
